(United States, SoloAzar Exclusive).- As part of SBC North America event, John Griffin General Manager of Fanduel Group, gave a talk about the liberalization of regulation in the US, and now it could potentially drive a new wave of innovation in the gaming industry.
This session, held last Tuesday, examined a handful of major consumer entertainment trends, and considered how they could manifest themselves in sports betting and other forms of gaming.
At first, Griffin talked about the context for today, and said that innovation in the gambling sector is structurally difficult due to: regulatory hurdles, high-up front costs, especially user acquisition, compliance product dev and can be investor hesitation towards sector.
"I believe we're unpenetrated in terms of start-ups meaning innovation falls to large companies, where busy roadmaps often favor "low risk, dependable rewards". He added that the growth of the industry in USA may be different than in Europe, and wonders if it is a new chapter for innovation.
He then examined two concepts: The rise of suscriptions and the concept that the niche is the new mainstream. Griffin showed a Gartner report that predicts that, by 2023, 75% of direct to consumer organizations will offer suscriptions.
Why do people like suscriptions? Predictability of cost, "set it & forget it" for routine purchases, a way to discover new things and concerns about being "trapped" into paying adressed with more transparent user control. "I believe customers have more confidence on serious brands than 5 years ago," he affirmed.
He commented cases of different precedents in the gaming sector: Sky Bet Club, Fantasy Draft and Betfair. He then analyzed how might suscriptions work in the gaming sector.
